Not since the likes of Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, and Marvin Gaye, has there been such a voice as soulful as that of Al Boyd.
Born in the small town of Rock Hill South Carolina, Al began singing at the age of 2. The son of a Pastor, he spent a lot of time in church, which was and still is one of the greatest musical influences in his life.
In 1991, Al joined the r&b group NPhase right out of high school. The group experienced marginal success, toured around the country, and recorded & performed with such names as R. Kelly, Silk, Shai, Jodeci, Blackstreet, Zhane', Take Six, Men At Large, SWV, Xscape, Brownstone, Salt-N-Pepa, and many more. Their hit single, "Spend The Night" featured Al's smooth soulful voice, and made its way to #16 on the Billboard charts.
Following in his father's footsteps, Al is also a licensed & ordained minister, and a prolific speaker, teacher, and workshop facilitator.
Al spent a great deal of time in the studio sharpening his writing and production skills over the next 14 years, and has written and produced for other artists, and has also won the John Lennon songwriting award.
In 2007, Al released his first solo project, "I live 4 U", and turned a lot of heads locally, nationally, and even internationally. Al has a passion for not only making music, but for teaching and training others to discover and polish their talents as well. He truly has an ear for raw talent, and has the ability to bring the best out of the people he works with.
Al Boyd is definitely a talent that reaches into the past, while forging into the future. A voice that takes you on a soulful journey, and music that transcends "genre"!
