Message to the Group

Please forgive me for any spelling and/or grammatical errors. I write. I don't proofread that's what I have others for. It takes up too much time to write and then read it back. I have someone else read it fo rme, tell me my mistakes and then I make the changes if I think they need to be corrected. I do encourage you to correct me. But please be sensitve. You know how we creative types are. Say one thing the wrong way and we're bound to fight you where you stand. So please if you do find a mistake I have made or anyone else for that matter, kindly send an e-mail and not post it up as a comment. If you feel like commenting please let it be something encouraging or informative. Anything critical can be between you and the writer. If the writer feels like posting it then allow them to do so but please give them the choice. Thank you.

What is a community?

Webster defines a community as a group of people, who live in the same area,
a group of people with a common background or shared interests within society,
a group of nations with a common history, economic or political interest.

When I look at my community, I see a community within a community.
I see and hear the many sounds of captivity.
Stand up for the count and shut up!
On the door for chow!
Movement!
Open your locker and step out for a search!
99G0515 come and get your mail.
Misbehavior report stating loss of commissary for two shops period and the joke is you only shop twice a month.
Loss of rec for one month
The final blow is NO PACKAGES FOR ONE MONTH.

Did you hear what happened to Sarah? She was beat down by Officer No Hope and his fellow officers called Who Cares!
Did you see Uncle Baby Girl and Mama Here I Am, trying to console the new babies who now have 25 to life; and they are only 19 years old!

Did you see the Satellite building; it is filled with women doing the throzine shuffle as they inch-by-inch into a spiral world of the loss and forgotten. Their traumas have lead them into a black hole. Only God knows what lies on the other side of their pain.

Auntie Irene just got the call to pack up for INS. At last she will finally go home to Ghana. My mother informed me that Auntie Irene, is still sitting in Pennsylvania with only the clothes on her back for over three weeks, waiting, waiting to finally go home.

The community of captivity is a never-ending cry for release, yet through it all we learn to adapt and change and change and adapt. True freedom is the ability to survive even in the wilderness of life’s experiences.

I am a new writer yet I have been using this gift tool for healing from much of the trauma I have survived. Here is a piece I will be reading at Cafe Largo On Oct 19, 2008
Located at 137th and Broadway. This is a place for writers, actors, playwriters and film makers to come and get feed back on their work. You just submit your work to River View Players . I have seem so many wonderful pieces, from poetry, film to plays done here. It every Sunday at 4-6Pm and it is FREE.
